It has been quite some time since I've had a chance to update anything on this blog. I have been working on some new series and have finished up some old series. I will be trying to get everything updated as soon as possible so that my art is available to be seen by anyone who happens along this blog. New ABC Photography Image

The latest in the ABC Photography series is an image created from an interesting find during an exploratory walk around my new town. I hope you like the latest in the series, we are on the letter M and halfway through this series now.

Manifestation -
I found these interesting metal cubes on a walk and had to take a picture...I am not sure what they are used for, but I did like the asymetry of their positioning. The different colors added to their interestingness.

New Flower Series Images

I have been a bit busy planning the move my family and I made last week. It was quite the change for all of us, but I feel we will be better off for it. I have some new images for the Flower Series. Some were created before the move and some after, but they are all very pretty and I hope you enjoy them.

Flower Series 17 -

This was taken in Texas in my backyard of a Rose of Sharon. I really like the editing on this one as the monochromatic scheme enhances the flower itself.

Flower Series 18 -

This was also in my yard in Texas, I had a few of these blooming trees (whose name escapes me right now) and the colors were just magnificent.

Flower Series 19 -

This was from a hibiscus plant in my front yard in Texas, the large bright blooms were always gorgeous and fun to look at. This image required no editing at all, there was nothing for me to do to it to enhance it any more than it already was.

Flower Series 20 -
This pretty flower I found while on a walk around my new town. I cannot say what type of flower it is, but I liked it right away.

Flower Series 21 -
The last addition to the Flower Series at this time is this beauty. I found this view in my new town while walking with my daughter and sister. I decreased the saturation then increased it just on the flowers. I then used the Diffuse Glow action to give it the dreamy appearance.

New ABC Photography Images

This series began when I started creating images that didn't really fit into a specific category like the flowers or trees. That's when I had the idea to create a category that goes through the alphabet. As I create these new random images, I think the hardest part is to name them based on the letter I'm at in the alphabet. Sometimes the names just pop out and there's no real problem, but sometimes, it takes some thought to come up with a name to match the image. Don't forget that all the images shown on this blog are available to purchase as prints by visiting my Shop.

Just Around the Bend
A nostalgic image of my son and Bruno as we were hiking at the lake. I watched them as they walked ahead of me and saw this image in my head (the sepia tone with distressed edges). I couldn't resist snapping the shot.

Keep Out
People who know me will be shocked by this image, as I have a terrible fear of spiders. That fear, however, does not include their webs. I think spiderwebs are beautiful and a work of art in and of themselves. So long as the spider isn't 'home' I have no problem taking a shot of the web.

Look Beyond
During the hike at the lake I saw this sight, the lake ahead with reeds, surrounded by the foliage of a tree. I knew this could be a great piece, but I was stumped when I started editing it. That's when I came up with the collage idea. I love to try new things and I like to offer a variety of image styles with my work so I thought this would be a good addition.

New Tree Series Images

I absolutely love trees, which is probably why I dedicated an entire series to just them. I really like these new ones, but then again, I like the old ones too. Don't forget, all the images shown on this blog are available to purchase as prints by visiting my Shop.

Tree Series - 13
I loved the shape of this tree and the setting around it. I boosted the color some to enhance the greens and blues.

Tree Series - 14
While processing this image, I tried this color scheme, thinking that I would just undo it and go on to something else. I do that alot when I am creating my digital art. However, I really liked the high contrast and vivid purples that resulted. I couldn't see it working as well any other way.

Tree Series - 15
I loved the image of this tree as just a standard picture with no enhancements, but as I am an artist, I tried to play around with it to make it even more dramatic. I began trying all sorts of things and found many that looked good, but they did not work for the entire image. That is when I got the idea to split the image and (after a lot of playing around with where to make the split) this was the result. I really like how this one turned out and think it may be my favorite thus far.

My roses are blooming! I absolutely LOVE roses, their shape, their colors, and most especially their smell. I was lucky that when I bought my house there were LOTS of roses all over the yard. I have some beautiful pink ones in the back yard that smell just aweome. While I don't care for the color pink much, these roses have to be an exception. Here are some new additions to the Flower Series, I actually debated on starting a series of just roses but decided against it. Enjoy!

Three New Flower Series

Spring is in the air...finally. I have managed to get a few good flower shots already and looking to get even more once everything starts to bloom fully. Photoshoot of my Kids

I took some time yesterday to get some new shots of my kids. We went in the backyard, the clearing next to the house, and the back room. I got some pretty good ones and even got a good one of the two of them together, which is rare indeed.

There were more good ones, but these are my favorites.

Photo Restoration - For PJ

I was given the opportunity to do some photo restoration for a client. She had some pictures with her mother that she wanted touched up because they were fading and getting worn. I was more than happy to have a go at them. Here they are:

The original was once a wallet sized image that had been enlarged on one of those Do-It-Yourself Photo Kiosks that you can find in most department stores now. PJ had wanted a larger size of this photo to display. She was unable to locate the original wallet size for me to use and the reprint had turned color somehow and was rather blurry. I returned the image to B&W and fixed the scratched and other wear to the image. I was able to sharpen the image a little, but I'm still hoping she'll find the original so that I can get her a clearer picture.

This image was rather difficult because of how overexposed the original was. I cleaned it up and increased the contrast to bring out the features more.

This image was probably the least worn and required very little work to fix. I only had to fix a few scratches and spots, then brighten it up a bit. I also returned it to an original B&W color since the original had begun to yellow a bit. I chose this image, also, to color. That was a very time-consuming project, but I think the end product turned out rather well. I chose colors that I thought were suited to the time period and that I thought would work well for the picture. As it turns out, the painting on the wall got recolored almost dead on, according to PJ, as she remembers that most of all since she still has it somewhere.

After I completed the coloring, I desaturatd it them just a little since they tend to look overly bright initially.

All in all, it was a great experience working with these images and I hope to do more restoration work in the future. If you would like any restoration work done, please send me an e-mail and we can work out the details.

Park Portraits - Emma

I took a portrait session at the park today, the subject, Emma, is a riot. I don't even know how many pictures I took and a lot of them are not useful as it was almost impossible to get her to stand still at all. I did end up with quite a few really good shots that I just love, and I'm still not through editing the 'keepers' yet. I thought I'd put a few up here to show off just how cute this little girl is...when she's not a blur to camera that is.

This shot was taken almost as soon as she arrived at the park. She was holding her mother's hand and I thought it was a very cute shot.

As I said, this girl didn't walk anywhere, it was hard sometimes to get shots of her that weren't just blur. I did catch a few that 'stopped time' and had to use them since running is so much a part of her personality.

As gravity would have it, the non-stop runner was stopped by nature. I captured this sweet moment while Emma's mother checked to make sure she was ok after her fall.

About the Photographer

So, you have found my blog portfolio, you have looked at some of my photographs and now you are wondering about me. My name is Charity, I have been taking pictures for as long as I've been able (and allowed to) hold a camera. I have always felt a love for photographing beautiful and interesting things.

My professional expierience includes working for Sears Portrait Stuido for a couple of month one year during Christmas time. I took a photography class in High School, where we developed and printed all of our own images. I have shot a couple of weddings, although I prefer not to. There is too much room for error with events like that, too much opportunity for a missed once-in-a-lifetime shot. I love taking pictures of my kids regularly and quite frequently hear how they look so good, and shock from people who realize I have taken them myself.

I am looking for clients who are not wanting the traditional stuido portrait of them, their kids, or their family. (This is somewhat mandatory for my services since I have no studio!) I will travel (within reason) to a destination of your choice, or suggest possible locations where fun and natural portraits can be taken.

I currently use a Canon EOS Rebel XS DSLR to take portraits. I have a point and shoot Kodak Easyshare as a backup, though the Canon is new so there shouldn't be any problem with it. I do not give any sort of restrictions as to how many pictures I will capture, except to say that the Canon holds an 8MG memory card and the Kodak holds a 4MB. If I can't get some good pictures on 12MB of combined memory then I'll give up photography forever! I do not offer packages or limit you to how many different 'poses' you can choose. You will be able to pick however many you want of whatever size you want.

Tree Series Photography

I absolutely LOVE trees. I love the shape the color, the texture of them. Trees are all around us and they help us to survive and are just gorgeous to look at. This is why I have dedicated a Series to Trees. The first tree image I created was done for a contest that won of some notecards. I go to decide what I wanted printed on the fronts of these cards and I chose this tree image.

I love the vibrant colors that came out in this photo, the dark shape of the tree only enhances the image in my opinion. I have a total of nine images in my Tree series right now and intend to create many more.

Flower Series Photography

Flowers are just so beautiful and they are very easy to get great photos of. I have taken a few of the nice shots I've gotten of flowers and edited them up a bit to offer some interesting artistic flower prints. One of my favorites is of a Rose of Sharon that grows in my back yard.

I put a vibrant background behind the mostly pastel colors of the flower to give it more presence and to make it show up better. The vertical lines add a touch of modernization to a beautiful photo.

Due to the cold weather right now, I only have about 4 images in the flower series, but I intend to take a lot more once the weather begins to warm up and the flowers start blooming.

Farm Life Series Photography

Around Thanksgiving of 2009 I took a trip with my boyfriend to a farm that belongs to his family. I loved the look of the place and couldn't get enough pictures of all the interesting things that were there. One of my favorites was of this old tractor that had been sitting unused for so long that I tree grew around it.

I added a few things to this image after taking it, such as the moon, the sepia tone and the lighting. I thouroughly enjoyed taking images at this location and hope to go back sometime and get some more. I have a total of 9 images that I took here and edited, each one has it's own unique charm.

ABC Photography Series

I have some images that I find beautiful and interesting that don't seem to fit into a specific series. I call these random images. The first one I listed under this heading was my image Between a Rock and a Hard Place. The second image was this one below which I titled Approaching Dusk:

After naming this piece I realized that I had the first two letters of the alphabet, therefore I decided to create the ABC series, where I have an image title for each letter of the alphabet. I have only gotten 4 so far, and I'm not real sure what will happen when I get to a few of the oddball letters like Q and Z.
